Monday Feb. 3, 2025 KUAC News stories:

1. The North American Aerospace Defense Command scrambled U.S. and Canadian fighter jets last week to accompany a formation of Russian aircraft flying through international airspace near Alaska and Canada. 

2. Democratic majorities in the Alaska Legislature are pushing to increase state funding for public schools during this session. And on Friday, Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy unveiled his own bill to reform schools.

3. A state commission is recommending automatic inflation-driven raises and salary cuts for Alaska’s governor, lieutenant governor, members of the state Legislature and top state officials.

4. Sunday marked the 100-year anniversary of the legendary serum run from Nenana to Nome to save the community from a diphtheria epidemic. And now some mushers are re-enacting the event to commemorate it.
